A question: why do people commit crime? Violent crime especially. And especially when that violent crime does not involve monetary gain? For the indication of popular opinion on the subject, one may turn to the Russian word often used to describe such criminals: подонки. While some other words are used from time to time, the connotation remains largely the same. The implied attitude of the said word is that criminal bears the sole responsibility for the crime due to their nature. Of course, that creates a problem that is left unexplored by popular opinion: where does this "nature" come from? Is it inborn? Or is it inbred? Not being an expert on criminal psychology, i can't answer that question. However, i did once hear a criminal profiler say the following (near literal paraphrase): in my job i've seen very few people whom i would call evil, mostly it was something that happened to this people in the past, something that traumatised them in the past, something that damaged then in their childhood.
If what that criminal profiler said is indeed the case, the use of special language that implies the difference in human essence of violent criminals from that of normal humans is also meant, subconscientiously of course, to exonerate that "normal" people from the responsibility for the acts of violent criminals. |

| Genshiken ROCKS!!! |
[Dec. 1st, 2006|09:31 am] |
Anime about Otaku, and a great anime at that. A must see, especially so because Genshiken is only 12 episodes long.
Sorry, but this one is not available at Weldon. :) |

| Banana Yoshimoto "Lizard" |
[Nov. 29th, 2006|03:18 am] |
To say that this collection of short stories in engaging is akin to saying "Sushi is great". You may not like the taste, but at least must appreciate the aesthetics of composition. The stories proceed in a traditional fashion with a clear exposition, build up to crisis, climax and resolution. All parts are beautifully interwoven together leaving no opportunity for you to put the story aside once you have started reading one of these stories beautiful in their simplicity.
The book contains six stories about relationships between people with emphasis upon relationships between man and woman. The stories are told through eyes, thoughts and memories of the protagonist who often comes out as the sole character of the story... As i thought, it would prove impossible for me to write about this book anything that might interest future reader. Pity, because book deserves to be read; especially so since it is available at Weldon and Huron libraries. |

| | Rahxephon - Bad News | ] | Since then had only 1 and a half hour break. The rest was occupied with work on presentaions, resumes, assignments, homework and interviews. And upcoming week doesn't promise easier days. if only i could say that i hate this all, but that is not possible. I greatly enjoy this self torture. May be this warrants a visit to shrink? I wonder... |
